SpotLight Musical Theatre Program

Hennepin Theatre Trust

The SpotLight Musical Theatre Program is a year-round education initiative run by Hennepin Theatre Trust, a non-profit organization devoted to enriching the cultural atmosphere of the Twin Cities. SpotLight provides support and training to young people who will carry the performing arts into the future. Minnesota is known for its strong support of arts education and Hennepin Theatre Trust is proud to nurture the next generation of artists and audiences.
Throughout the school year skilled evaluators assess high school musical performances and submit nominations for various award categories. Any high school in Minnesota that produces a musical is welcome to apply. Students are also invited to attend an annual SpotLight Musical Theatre Conference offering musical theatre workshops taught by arts professionals.

In June, the program culminates with the SpotLight Musical Theatre Awards, a public event held at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis showcasing performances by outstanding award recipients and highlighting some of the best young talent in the state. Schools and individuals are not judged in competition with each other, allowing for multiple award winners in each category.

This year's SpotLight Musical Theatre Awards were held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Orpheum Theatre.
